The Movie The Warlords Essay - 1634 Words
The several movies portrayed in this course were very helpful in understanding Asian history. In my opinion, these movies were helpful in the way that they introduced the fundamental basic history about how the wars shaped the outcome of Korea and China. These movies were helpful because they provided an overall consideration of the different perspectives of the wars. In the movie The Warlords, we gained knowledge about the Manchu governmentââ¬â¢s perspective and in the movie The Front Line, we gained knowledge from both the northââ¬â¢s and southââ¬â¢s Korea armies sides. As Richard Bernstein said ââ¬Å"movie makers and television producers have become our most powerful, though perhaps not our most careful, historians.â⬠He stated that it was fair to say that society used to think that they are getting history, or what they think is history, from the movies than from the standard history books. However, he also confirmed that the actors have a great influence on the production of the movie as well ââ¬â ââ¬Å"many of the latest history movies deal not with distant events but with the central episodes and actors of our era.â⬠In addition, Bernstein contributed to his argument that the artists could distort the facts of the history by pointing that the society grants the artists the power to comment on both our past and our present. Thus, intentionally or not, the artists could betray the history presented to the public by commenting their personalââ¬â¢s opinions.
